About the artist
Tamar Baskind is an artist and writer, living in New Orleans. She was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel, and is deeply influenced by location in all of her works.
Tamar wrote her first work of fiction at 5 years of age, and learned to sew at age 6. She has consistently engaged in these arts, even while learning other forms of creativity. Over the years, she has developed as a textile artist, beadworker, writer, and more. Her latest journey is into the colorful medium of stained glass.
She imbues each item with energy and intention, and her esoterica works are deliberate in use and are made with specific recipients in mind.
A selection of her esoterica items are used for divination and other purposes in her practice.
My Story
Tamar was born in Jerusalem, a different place in the early 1970s than it is today, and has been influenced by the energy of the place since before she can remember. As a child she wandered the hillsides, learning about plants and their uses, and animals and their habits. As a teen, she enjoyed wandering around the Old City, enamored with its allies, its history, and the significance of sites holy to so many people.
During that time she began writing, sewing, doing beadwork, and other forms of art.
As a young adult she moved to the United States' west coast, and there learned that the energies, history, and beauty in which she developed, was not the same in other places. She continued her development as an artist, under her mentor, a member of the Miwok people, while living in Yosemite National Park
It was here as well that she also began consciously exploring and learning her spiritual path, and the practices that go with it, and began incorporating this into her artwork. each of her art pieces, whether visual or verbal, is done with intention and infused with energy and intention. Some were made by commission, others as gifts, and others for the artist's growth and spiritual well being,
